The Pioneer Trail at Dixville Bruce Baldwin
BRUCE BALDWIN
1842-1925
Born on a farm in Dixville—then known as Drew’s Mills—this member of a large pioneering family in the Coaticook region played a pivotal role in the historical events that forged the municipality.
Mr. Baldwin started out working as a horseshoer before 1887, when he took over the general store established by his uncle Richard Baldwin. Later, when he continued working as a blacksmith, his son-in-law actively worked to develop the general store, which contained not only everyday household and farm items, but also the post office, the telephone… and even the bank.

The voices of yesteryear at the heart of our landscapes
FIND OUT MORE …
Go to the middle of Dixville, in Lanouette Park on Rue Chamberlain, where you will meet Mr. Baldwin. While you listen to his story, admire St. Cuthbert Church and its former presbytery, which is an important symbol of the municipality’s heritage. Right around the corner is the historic home of the Baldwins, at 315 Chemin Parker. Take a moment to admire the four steeples in this little village, which welcomed many persons with intellectual disabilities in the Dixville Home for over 50 years. This centre has gradually changed vocations over the past dozen years, but a residence and workshops have been maintained on Rue St-Alexandre. For more information, visit : www.dixville.ca
